Let’s flip the paradigm around —
Instead of disease-focused medicine, let's create an actual health-focused approach to healthcare.
.
What does this look like?
.
Well, they are doing this in Michigan already!
.
With Michigan’s Prescriptions for Health Program, prescription vouchers are given out to patients with diet-related diseases (there are so many) that they can exchange for healthy food.
.
Tufts researchers estimated that if insurers covered 30% of the cost of eligible healthy foods, 3.28 million cardiovascular events (like heart attacks) and 120,000 diabetes cases in the United States would be prevented, and $100.2 billion 💰 would be saved.
.
Whoa! And this doesn’t even include all the adverse effects of prescription medications that would be avoided as well.
.
So, why not switch to a health-focused model right away?
.
Well, one of the first things physicians tell me is they don’t have time to talk to patients about this. (It’s way faster to write a prescription than talk about diet.)
.
Yes, that is partially true.
.
But small changes done consistently can create remarkable results.
.
📝For example, one of my favorite “prescriptions” to give out is to “have fun.” Not in a reckless way, but to do something nourishing for your soul everyday.
.
Something that you want to do just for you.
.
It could be to…
-read a book
-go for a walk
-call a friend
-play with clay
-have a lunch date
.
💖Taking a small step for yourself everyday helps your spirit, mind, and body.
.
I’ve seen digestive troubles ease, headaches calm, blood pressure normalize, brain fog lift, and relationships improve by doing this.
.
Because it focuses on the health inside you, supports it, and draws it out.
.
This is an example of health-focused medicine, and it can do wonders.
.
👉 What health-focus step would you like to take for yourself today? What’s fun for you?
.
Much love,
Dr. Dijamco
